Iron Horse Bicycle Classic

This is an epic event for Durango. In 2022, it actually celebrates its 50th year – so this will be even
bigger than ever. Basically, two brothers – one a train engineer and the other a cyclist – decided
to race and see who could get to Silverton first. The cyclist won the first race, but the train and
the bicycle have been racing ever since. This is a festival for the community with kids bike races,
BMX races, fun events downtown and more. But, more than that, this is a legit and very
important professional race for pro cyclists around the world. It’s also held over Memorial Day
weekend every year, so it’s the official start of summer. First, I think it’s important to make sure
we let all our guests know how many wonderful things are happening that they could enjoy. It
would absolutely step up their positive experience here, and all it would cost us is preparing to
share information. We’re already starting to book up for that weekend next year, but we could
certainly tap into this epic event to make sure we book every spot and cabin that might be
available. If we get some budget for activities, we could see what bicycle-themed things we
could do over the weekend.
